DYLAN COBURN

Available Now!

Storyboard Artist, Writer & Director

Dylan Coburn is a New Zealand-based storyboard artist, director, and author, known for his visual storytelling work on major productions like The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, A Minecraft Movie, M3gan 2.0, and Chief of War. With decades of experience in film and television, he’s worked alongside some of the industry's top directors, helping bring epic worlds and characters to life—frame by frame.

But Dylan’s storytelling doesn’t stop at the storyboard. He’s also the author of the children’s book Boingo and the Golden Balloon, a whimsical tale full of adventure and heart that highlights his love of narrative and imagination. At the same time, his writing explores much darker themes through multiple screenplays, including Johnny Whisper, a story where a teenager’s intrusive negative thoughts take form as eerie “Whisper Dolls.” Possessed by ancient malevolent spirits, these dolls attach themselves to innocent youths, twisting their thoughts and minds.

In this episode, we’ll dive into the unique dynamics of working within large creative teams, the rhythms of film production, and the evolving role of the storyboard artist in an increasingly digital world. We’ll also explore how Dylan balances the precision of visual storytelling with the creative freedom to pursue his own writing projects.

Whether you're in animation, film, publishing, or just curious about how big ideas come to life in the studio setting, this episode has something for you.
